Go over your employee listing to see that all employees are currently active at work. And check in on those employees that are on a leave of absence.

Also review each employee file to ensure that all their information is current and up-to-date. This includes addresses, emergency contacts, employment documents, and contracts, etc.

Review Policies and Procedures

Review the company’s current policies, procedures and practices to ensure they are current with legislation and are being followed internally amongst management and employees.

Review vacation and sick day allocations to see if your policy is helping attract and retain employees, as well as rewarding them for years of service.

Look into your onboarding and termination processes standardized, in compliance with the law, and effective.

Review Benefits and Compensation Structure

Are employees motivated and working to their full potential? Take a day to revise everyone’s salary and compare them to the current job market value. Additionally, take into consideration years of service and their performance outcomes from the previous year.

Is your benefits plan satisfying the needs of your employees? Take time to talk to your broker to discover other beneficial options to add to your benefits plan such as an Employee Assistance Program, a health care spending account, a lifestyle (flexible) spending account, an RRSP plan, or a wellness initiative.
